3.0 MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

3.1 Authors need to ensure that the manuscript submitted

is complete. A manuscript can only be considered as

complete when it meets the requirement and structure of

a book. Generally, a book consists of three main parts,

namely the front matter (preliminaries), body matter (text)

and back matter. Thus, it is the responsibility of the author

to ensure that his manuscript consists of all these three

parts.

GUIDELINES

Developing an Original Writing

a.

The Front Matter (Prelims) consists of the book’s

title, dedication page, table of content, list of

illustrations, list of tables, information about

the authors/contributors, epigraph, chronology,

preface, introduction, acknowledgement, and

abbreviation of symbols. Each page should be

numbered consecutively using the lower case

Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, iv, v, vi and so on).

b.

The Body Matter (Text) is the textual content

of a book that consists of parts, chapters and

subchapters. Each page of the text should be

numbered consecutively using the Arabic numerals

(1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on).

c.

The Back Matter is the supporting materials that

are referred to by the author for the reader to have

a better understanding of the text. It should be

arranged according to the following order:

a.

The author’s brief biography (if any);

b.

Appendix (if any);

c.

Notes (if any);

d.

List of Terminologies (if any);

e.

Glossary (if any);

f.

Bibliography (if any);

g.

Index (must be provided).

3.2 In preparing the manuscript, the use of capital letters,

italics, punctuation marks, numbering system, acronyms,

spelling and grammar should preferably follow the Dewan

Style (Gaya Dewan). Footnotes should follow the system

as specified in USIM’s Handbook on Academic Writing.

Malay and English manuscript should be written using

Ariel font sizes 11 for the text and 9 for footnotes. Arabic

manuscript should be written using Traditional Arabic font

sizes 16 for the text and 12 for footnotes.

3.3 Authors writing in the fields of science, technology and

engineering should ensure uniformity and consistency

in the use of terminologies, units of measurement and

dimension, symbols, mathematical formula, technical

signs and others. The use of these terminologies should

follow the standards as specified by the Dewan Style.

3.4 Authors writing on Islamic field must adopt the Uthmanic

Style (Rasm Uthmani) in writing Quranic verses (if any),

and should employ the latest religious terminologies used

in Islam.

3.5 Ideally, the text layout of the manuscript should be set

at the beginning of its preparation based on the following

format:

a.

The title of a chapter: It can be written either in

capital letters, or in a combination of upper and

lower case letters using a suitable font type size.

It can be placed either at the centre of a page, or

aligned to the left or right.
